Well, now that I had some free time, I decided to draw something quickly, and I tried these two friendly fellas. Hmmm... I think I made Tobias look a bit older than he actually is. XXD
Aww, what an honor! Someone made art of my character, and in that same piece of art is another grand friendly friend! How awesome, I like the styles! You can do a better Toby than I'm ever able to! X3 The textures are wondrous... a nice vest with horizontal lines! Some colorfully-noised pantaloons, and a book with old fashioned pages, that must be a good one. :3 Toby's taller than Nishi, but even so, he can still get a yoshi ride! ...If my vertebrae can take it. :3
Thank you muchly for the kindness, I'm sure he'll appreciate it as much as I do. :3
Sorry for taking so long to comment on your drawing, I am quite busy lately with school, assignments, drawing and returning a few comments, so I didn't get to check your page earlier - and didn't know you drew this until I saw it in Nishi's favourites
Anyhow, they look cute - actually the picture looks a bit as if Tobias is reciting poetry and Nishi is checking whether all is correct in the book, ooor maybe they're discussing? You did a nice job on Nishi's anatomy, definitely better than what I can do when trying to draw Yoshies - for some reason the muzzle always turns out to be way too large, or sometimes the eyes are too small - or a combination of both You did well though, the lines look a bit shaky at times, such as on the very bottom of his left shoe, and at times he looks a bit embossed (which is because on the pants, you put the shadow on the right, however on his chest, you put it on the left - if you changed it around and constantly put it on the right, that will add a lot of depth. Basically, you can cheat on shadows and make your life easy, just putting them on one side always, such as the right - it will look fine anyhow). All in all he's looking fine though, the colours are fitting - the book looks a bit heavy, if you make the inside lines between the pages really thin, that'd help quite a bit here, I suppose
I don't think Tobias looks necessarily old, he's a little longer than I usually draw him, but I guess that's more accurate for seals - I just draw him a little shorter and such, because he's actually a very young seal (and probably won't grow a lot ) The colours are fitting, I see you added textures to his for as well (they might make him look a little .. wrinkly, but that's nothing big - the textures on nishi are well chosen, in any case, making his jacket look a bit like linen and his pants soft) .. and the shadow on him works too. The eyes are looking a little odd, but that's mainly because they're not exactly lines up - his left one seems higher than his right one - that happens to me as well Usually I just redraw it a little lower, or a little to the side again His nose and mouth look a bit angular (which is maybe why he looks a tad older than he is), but all in all you did a good job - the effort you put into this drawing shows too, like the different line widths, that add a lot to the depth and surely were a good idea to put in. You should keep that up, and maybe even add a bit more, by making the lines slightly thicker where the shadows are on your future drawings (you can do this by making the outline in one width, as you did it now, and then go over the most shadowed spots again).
Anyway, thank you a lot for drawing Nishi and me - to be honest, it's always an honour to see someone actually taking the time and efforts and draw not only a sketch but actually a coloured and shaded picture of my character *-* And again, sorry for not noticing it earlier, I didn't mean it, and yet it's two weeks already, come to think of it
What? You don't have to be sorry. I understand that people are very busy all the time. You just take your time, all right? Sometimes I act a bit random, as you can see with Nishi just holding a book. The shakiness of the lines is because of my hands: it hates my mouse. (I draw my stuff first, then redraw the entire thing on computer.) XD I wish I could make the lines smoother, though, as they look pixelated when looked at up close.
Thanks for listing the observations as well. (You have a good eye noticing those things! ) I appreciate the time you take in writing out your comments.
Oh, I see - actually, I do the very same as you, I can't just really start a drawing on the computer without messing the composition or the proportions up - so I draw it on paper first, then scan it, and draw over the lines, just like you do What you could try is seeing whether the drawing program you have supports anti-aliasing for the pen-tool - if it does, the lines will look a lot smoother (put the lines on a seperate layer on the very top though), but might also get slightly blurry You could also try what I did on the very beginning, there I first drew the drawings with pencil, and then drew over it again on the paper with black ink, scanned it and just coloured it on the computer, making drawings such as [link] (I know it's a bit shaky too, but keep in mind it's old and it was tiny on the paper .. the ink I used was a 0.1 mircon-pen-thingy)
You're welcome, in any case, and thank you for all your efforts ^-^
